How to create an account, FUND  (transfer money into),  do a "spend" from E-Gold; and Redeem your funds;  plus

Please read my "Hacker alert" section near the bottom.

Create your account
It is FREE to create your account at e-gold. Go to https://www.e-gold.com/e-gold.asp?cid=115702    , click on "create account", fill in the blanks and click on "open".   That's all there is to it.   The  ID # they give you and "passphrase" are the  two things you will need to have in order to ever access your account, view the history of changes, history of payments, do in-exchanges with, or spend money from so choose those two items carefully and record them somewhere before you click on "open" account.  As soon as you click on "open" account, you will receive your account number. Print it out and keep it in a safe place along with your passphrase. NEVER, NEVER NEVER give out your passphrase and only use it when on the e-gold site doing a spend. Do NOT keep it in a file somewhere on your harddrive for a hacker to come in and find.

Next you  must "fund" your account. In other words put some money in it to cover what you plan to buy with it. There are many things on the net that use E-Gold as well as , EvoCash, NetPay and E Bullion  to receive payment for and to send proceeds to when you earn money. And it is quick. But since gold fluctuates in price considerably from week to week  you don't want an excess amount of capital sitting in e-gold that you bought at $320/ounce and is now worth $275 per ounce when it comes time to spend it. AND, they have a 4% difference in the "in-exchange" versus "out-exchange " rates which even further depletes your useable spendable capital which I think is a little high for all the people who have to use e-gold to fund things with; but that's the way it is.

Options for funding your account

The ONLY way to send money directly to e-gold is via a bank wire transfer or go through an independent market money maker like Omnipay.  They won't accept direct wire transfer payments of less than $1000.   For amounts less than $1000 or methods of funding other than direct bank wire transfer you have to go through what is called a "Market  Maker". If you go to www.e-gold.com  and look at the right you will find a link called "e-gold directory"; this is where you will find all the moneychangers.

One of the least expensive Market Makers is www.goldage.net   where you can fund your e-gold account for only 2%.

Directions for  funding your e-gold account via
E-Gold's system called Omni Pay - this requires a
minimum of $1000 however and assesses a 3-4% charge.

Steps for funding via OmniPay

Go to www.e-gold.com   , and click on "access account" and then click on the link  on the right that says "e-gold directory" . Then scroll down the market makers list until you find "OmniPay" and click on it.   Then click on "national currency to e-metal" on the left.  Fill in the blanks and click "preview". If everything is correct , then click confirm and it's a done deal.  Be sure to copy the confirmation number (batch number) down and enter it in the reference box of your wire transfer.   After you click confirm you will be taken to a page that tells you how to send your money to them. Keep in mind that they will deduct a 3-4% charge going in based upon the difference between their in-exchange rate and their out-exchange rate.

Transaction Reference Number or Batch number

What is the transaction reference number??   When you did your "In Exchange" thing above and put in the amount and then clicked on "confirm" at the bottom, the next page that comes up has what is called your "reference or batch " number on it.   It is the record of the transaction so e-gold can match what you said you wanted to do on the internet with the money when it actually comes in to make sure it gets into the right account. The transaction reference number should be included on ALL the methods of transfer be it money order, western union , or bank transfer. Here is a copy of a spend. The last number is the transaction reference number; also called the payment reference number.
From Ber to 168329 to get email address, 9/8/2000

And that's funding your  e-gold account.

Transferring money from your e-gold account to somewhere else; termed "spend"
Go to  e-gold  at http://www.e-gold.com  and click on "access account"  and then click on the square on the left that says "to access your e-gold account - click here" .   Then click on "spend".

In the first block you are entering in the e-gold account number you have been asked to send the money to.

Next enter in the amount you are sending in US dollars and "gold".
Do NOT use the $ sign; just the number .

Next - DON'T forget to change the "grams" box on the form to "US Dollars".

Next  block down, called the "memo box", enter in what the opportunity you are funding told you to enter  in the memo section.  In many cases you enter in YOUR  email address and your sponsor's ID number .

Below that enter in YOUR e-gold account number.

And last  YOUR e-gold passphrase.   Never, Never enter your passphrase onto any lookalike webpage that is NOT at the actual e-gold website.  You can check if it is real or not by looking at the turing number you have to enter in; back out of the site and come back in and see if it is the same turing number or a different one.   If it is the same, some scammer is trying to capture your passphrase so he can clean out your account.

Instead of typing in your passphrase even at the e-gold site; you should click on the round SRK button at the right of the passphrase entry point and use your mouse and a keypad that pops up to input your passphrase. This prevents hackers looking at your keyboard strokes from getting at your passphrase.

Then click "preview" at the bottom and verify all the information on the next page that comes up and even print it out so you have a copy and then "confirm" it.

The next page that comes up is your confirmation page and will have the batch number of the transaction on it and you should both print that out for your records as well as copy it and paste it into a new email addressed to yourself so you have a place to copy it from if you need to. Go to   here   for copy and paste instructions.

Last step is normally to then go back and send an e-mail to the company you have just sent money to and tell them you have completed the transfer of funds to them and include the batch number of the transaction in the e-mail.   I usually include a copy of the confirm transaction for good measure. And that's it! Not that complicated.

Redeeming your money from E-Gold.

You can REDEEM your money from E-Gold in the form of a check for only $1 if it is sent snail mail. And  sometimes is behooves us to take our money in the other systems and get it into E-Gold first before taking  it.
Use  www.goldage.net
or    www.x-changers.com    to move money from EvoCash, or E-Bullion,  into E-Gold.

Then go to www.e-gold.com  and click on "e-gold directory" link at the right.  Then find "OmniPay " in the list of market makers. Then choose "e-metal to national currency" from the left side.  Fill out all the blanks, choose the courier method (snail mail is only a buck and I've always received my checks) and submit it.  In the US usually 3-4 days later your check arrives.  If you choose a bankwire transfer for $20 you will be taken to another page where you will fill out all your transfer details.

Hacker alert
A word about your passphrase and hackers who try to steal your password and thus your money from your e-gold account.  This is becoming very serious with scammers sending out messages that appear to come from e-gold and sending you lookalike pages for you to post your passphrase on so they can clean out your account.

E-GOLD doesn't send out messages to their customers. EVER. That's your first and biggest clue what you are receiving is a fraudulent e-mail.

Extra measure of protection
Most of you have received notice about  hackers going into E-gold accounts
and cleaning them out.  I have had my account at e-gold cleaned out several times now and I use Trojan 5.5, Spy Sweeper, several anti-virus programs plus one at my email host, Norton Internet Security, Window Washer, and ZoneAlarm PLUS I use the e-gold SRK passphrase technology. Bottomline; if you use e-gold you are susceptible to loss of funds.

Using the SRK passphrase technology for increased security.
When you go to www.e-gold.com  and login in, there are three boxes to fill out; your account #, your passphrase and the turing number. You can type in your account ID number and the turing number but instead of typing in your passphrase you click on the round SRK button alongside the passphrase box and a small keypad surfaces allowing you use numbers, capital letters, and small letters in your passphrase. You use your mouse and this little keypad to input your passphrase; you don't type it in and let a hacker see your keyboard strokes. When you are done be sure and click the x in the top right corner of the keypad and it disappears.
BUT, before just entering your password that way you have to SET your passphrase that way. So you have to first enter your site by regularly typing in your passphrase and then go to account information where you will edit and CHANGE your passphrase and enter it using the SRK method. Again, click on the SRK ball at the right of the passphrase block and the keypad appears and set your passphrase using the mouse and keypad; NOT by typing it in. After you are done setting the first line, click on the arrow that points to the right on the right side of the clear (CLR) button and it will then shift your input to the second passphrase boxand repeat the process for the second box. Input the same set of numbers and random letters there - don't use words; use random numbers and small and upper case letters intermixed; like 2cv476cxgBYU968. When you have entered the identical passphrase into the second box, click the x in the upper right hand corner of the little keypad box and it disappears. Click submit and your new passphrase should be enabled. logout and then login back in to test it; this time inserting your passphrase by clicking on the SRK ball and using the keypad and mouse.

A better way to protect your funds
I no longer keep ANY major funds at e-gold and ship them all over to e-bullion using www.goldage.net where I have e-bullion's cryptocard passphrase protection device which is bulletproof. You have to have the card in front of you and enter in the numbers it says to access your account. No card, no access. I have had money hacked from my e-gold account using all the protective measures listed above including SRK passphrase input.
See more about this at www.detailshere.com/e-bullion.htm

Many programs today want you to do a spend to e-gold from THEIR site instead of you going to e-gold independently. Some of these programs are specifically designed to mimic e-gold sufficiently to fool you into releasing your passphrase for them to then go in and steal your money from your e-gold account. And e-gold's customer service is NOT timely in getting it squared away. In fact they NEVER get it squared away. You never recover those funds.

It is my opinion that hackers today enter your computer and track your keyboard strokes; which the SRK technology at e-gold was supposed to take care of , but it didn't - I still got hacked using SRK. Just my opinion but I think there are insiders at e-gold helping outsiders steal money.

Make sure that your password is unique and not used anywhere else for ANY other program. Make it long &  made of mixed letters and numbers, not words.   Hackers are now using computers to go through different words and number combinations to try to hack into your account.  The more numbers and letters you can use the harder it will be for them to randomly accomplish that. Use all 40 spaces.

Create a "private" or "safe" account. No one should know about this account but you. When you receive a sizeable amount of money, move it IMMEDIATELY to this "safe" account. My "safe" account is at e-bullion; not e-gold. When you need to make a spend, move the money from this account to your "public" account. Hackers won't go after an account they have never heard of. Of course, the password for this account should be unique as well. Use letters and numbers, and make sure that it is at least 10 characters long. And DON'T keep the password anywhere in a document on your main harddrive.

Next; install an internet security program  on your computer so hackers cannot access the files on your computer. I used Norton Internet Security; www.symantec.com  but it didn't protect me.  I think the better firewall out there is ZoneAlarm.  www.zonelabs.com

And install a virus program on your computer so your files can't be infected from email viruses sent to you as trojans to retrieve your passwords you shouldn't be storing anywhere on your computer anyway.  You should be writing these down on paper but not keeping them on your computer.   A good free virus program, AVG 6.0, can be found and downloaded at www.grisoft.com  .

These are the best ways that I know of to protect yourself from hackers. Of course, if you keep records on your computer, people who can link up to your computer through your phone/cable connection can read all of your files. I keep my passwords off my records and write them in by hand after I print out those documents. This is the computer age, folks. Be wary of computer attack!
