Comparing the Jupiter Orion or Aquarius with Enagic

This is an important page to read, especially the bottom section
regarding ORP values.

The word “Kangen” in Japanese means “return to origin” and is simply a marketing term. It is used by Enagic which is a Multi-level marketing company that sells water ionizers. Enagic to the best of our knowledge does not manufacture ionizers. Enagic bought the marketing rights to a product line manufactured by Toyo Industries. Toyo was a successful Japanese company that has a long and successful history manufacturing water ionizers. Interestingly enough there was some level of collaboration between Jupiter Science and Toyo in the development of the first titanium/platinum electrodes.

Rather than being sold through the internet or actual retail stores, Enagic products are sold by MLM “Reps” who typically do not have a thorough technical understanding of the properties of water, ionization and how the two together produce health benefits. I am sure there are exceptions – reps who have really rolled up their sleeves and educated themselves. The fact remains that I hear a lot of “bogus” info from people who have been to Enagic presentations. Going to a few MLM presentations does not make one an expert in something, especially something as complex and technical as ionization. Enagic “reps” are often innocently fed misinformation and led to believe in half truths. Then these misinformed “reps”, who are motivated by the MLM dream, go forth and perpetrate these inaccuracies and mislead naïve customers into falsely thinking they are getting something of value for the extra $2500.

Remember that this technology is virtually unknown here in the US , so most people investigating it are hearing the “facts” for the first time. This makes them particularly vulnerable to the misinformation approach. This approach is bad for our industry as a whole. IonLife believes wholeheartedly in giving good, sound information and encouraging our potential customers to do their own investigating. When they do, they most often come back and purchase Jupiter.

In 2000, Enagic purchased the right to sell a re-branded version of the old Toyo Pure Porte II. The Pure Porte was state of the art technology at the time it was released into the market somewhere around 8-10 years ago. The unit has not seen significant improvement since then and technologically has been surpassed. Enagic’s low end model, the Leveluk DX sells for approximately $XXXX, the mid-level unit the Leveluk DX II sells for $XXXX, and the high end unit the Super 501 sells for $XXXX. Enagic units are the only ionizers on the market that cost that much! This explains why they have such a minimal internet presence. Type “water ionizer” or “alkaline water” into Google…you will not see any Enagic dealers come up. The price of these models has more to do with compensating the Enagic MLM reps than the actual cost or the comparative technology inherent in their ionizers. To verify that ,simply ask Enagic about their compensation plan and see how much money is paid to the various levels of the network organization when one machine is sold. (from Ber - I have that information if anyone wants to really know but I would probably send you to Maurice to get it to make sure it is current).

To be objective the Pure Porte is a good machine. It produces good levels of pH and ORP, comparable to the performance of our Jupiter Melody. I have seen these models tested side by side, which is the only salient way to compare the performance of ionizers (due the highly variable nature of the mineral content of the source water – which is a key factor in performance).
The Enagic marketing tends to focus on the acidic water (unlike the rest of the industry).

The Enagic units utilize a saline injection system (an ongoing cost) to produce super low pH water. Jupiter’s answer to super low pH: try adding plain old rock salt to the calcium port into your Jupiter model (Melody, Aquarius and Orion) and crank the setting to low acid. In my side by side testing the Melody hit 2.4 pH. I am happy to test performance anywhere, anytime against any Enagic machine.

Here are some bullet points to consider in comparing Enagic to Jupiter:

·         Filtration: Jupiter’s Biostone filtration system is available in 1micron and .01micron levels of filtration. Both options have coral calcium and tourmaline to improve performance (Enagic does not have a .01 filtration option or Tourmaline)

·         Installation: the Melody can be installed three ways including undersink, while the Enagic two “lower end models” can only be installed one way - at the sink with a diverter.  The high end model can be installed under sink.

·         Functionality: the Melody has increased functionality in terms of a flow control valve that operates independently of the tap (Enagic only controls by tap). The two latest models have a fully automatic valve system. The more advanced Jupiter models have an LCD control panel screen which has various readouts and alarms.

·         Cleaning: the Melody, and the two latest models have a patented reversible chamber so you can ALWAYS get alkaline water even while the machine is cleaning (Enagic you have to wait)

·         Performance: the Melody in side by side comparisons is at least equal to the Enagic Levelluk DX II. Jupiter’s latest two models the Aquarius and Orion, being stronger than the Melody, will most likely outperform Enagic (not tested yet against Enagic).

·         Cutting Edge Technology: Jupiter’s latest models have new patented features to further distinguish them in value when buying Jupiter. Features like: 1) the new mesh plating (increases surface area of electrode in contact with the water),    2) a new patented SOL automatic valve system to optimize ORP at lower levels of pH (Enagic doesn’t have a valve other than the tap!)     3) the new patented DARC cleaning system which eliminates mineral deposits ensuring more power and longer plate life

·         Manufacturing Standards: Enagic talks about Korean vs Japanese manufacturing. The fact is that Jupiter’s parent makes Medical Equipment and has been manufacturing ionizers since 1982. Who owns Enagic and what is their background? Jupiter manufactures in a state of the art ISO 9001 certified and ionizer-dedicated plant (they do not make anything else).   ISO is the world-recognized certification for quality standards in manufacturing (see:  http://www.iso.org ) ISO certification is very expensive and time consuming. I am not sure how Enagic claim superior manufacturing without anything to back it up? Jupiter products are additionally CE, UL and RoK2 certified.

·         Water Ionizers, and the technology that makes it possible, is classified by the Japanese Ministry of Health as a medical device.  Contrary to claims we continue to hear being made by Enagic reps, no specific brand of Ionizer is exclusively designated as “approved”, but rather, the technology itself is.

·         Jupiter has the lowest return rate for service in the industry (less than 2%). When something does need repair, we have repair facilities on both coasts ensuring prompt service.

·         Good Looks: Our machines (particularly the latest models) are more sophisticated, stylish and contemporary looking!

To sum up, Enagic costs more not because it is a better product, but rather because it is sold through an MLM company.  Jupiter is the number one selling ionizer in the US and world markets. Jupiter has been manufacturing ionizers since 1982 and continues to expand their market, to demonstrate product innovation tempered with twenty five years' experience, and delivers no-fuss customer support. You can buy Jupiter with the utmost confidence that when considering performance, features, functionality and retail cost that it is the best value around.

Whether you buy Jupiter or Enagic, ionized water is amazing and this is an important investment in your health. As always, I invite you to roll up your sleeves and do your own homework. I think you will find Jupiter, as most others have, to be the best investment around.

ORP  - oxidation reduction potential
Which machine produces the highest negative reading  so you get the most excess electrons per gulp? It's not that easy.

ORP is rarely fully understood by those chasing it, and most certainly not by those trying to "pin it down" with an absolute number. If it were an absolute measurement value, then all manufacturers would publish test results front and center on their websites and the one with the best ORP would win. Most of the responsible players in the industry do not publish absolute numbers, and if they refer to them at all, they do so in a variable range. ORP is a highly variable number depending on three factors. These are the three primary factors that control pH and ORP in the water produced by your ionizer:

1. The source water - its mineral content and conductivity.  We can not        control this factor.

2. The voltage and the flow rate (both we can control)

Comparing ORP (or "Redox" - it's the same thing) is a tricky business. And stating absolute values is impossible. Anyone who really knows and understands ionizers/ORP would agree. Anyone who states absolutes proves their ignorance on the subject and the science behind it.

The most salient way to compare ORP is side-by-side, with the same source water and each machine set to achieve the same pH - say 9.0. That is where the real bang for the buck is: ORP at a pH level one would actually drink. Water with a pH over about 10.5 does not taste good to most people. Water at high pH levels is high in alkaline minerals, it is like drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda (alkaline bicarbonate) in it.

I will confidently look straight into anyone's eyes and state that almost all machines on the market will achieve adequate levels of pH, in the range the Japanese researchers state is ideal for drinking (8.5 - 9.5). The real question then is: what ORP will the water have at the level one likes to drink it? That is where our machines stand out.  In this type of comparison, I assure you that the Melody will equal or beat virtually any machine out there. We had an "other brand"   dealer in LA who performed exactly the test I just outlined, other brands vs. Melody (and Panasonic and Alkablue to boot) in his lab, with his own ORP meter, all at the same pH. The Melody tested with significantly higher -ORP values than the other machines. He called after completing the testing and placed an order of 25 units, and is now a Jupiter dealer.

To further illustrate this variable nature in performance our Jupiter Melody has tested at -818 millivolts of ORP in Carlsbad , California (by the IonLife VP of Technology / R&D) where the tap water tests at 8.0pH straight from the tap. Testing was performed with a Melody straight out of the box (no calcium insert) with ordinary tap water that just happens to be very high in alkaline minerals. By contrast in Reno  the tap water tests at 6.24pH straight from the tap in our office. The Melody achieved -467millivolts (an excellent reading). These are our test results. Is it the ionizer? No it is the water that is the main variable in performance. To further illustrate variability, I could play around with the flow rates through the machines (determining exactly how long the water is subjected to electrolysis) in either Carlsbad or Reno and alter the ORP values yet again. You speed it up, you get a less ORP, you slow it down and you'll get more.
